Cape Town Nightlife and Entertainment

Cape Town has a vibrant late-night café society, the hub of which is “restaurant mile” in Kloof Street in the Gardens area. Also reliably busy is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, packed with bars and restaurants. For some people, the large Imax Theatre in the BMW Pavilion may be the epitome of fun – the screen is so large and the digital sound so good, you can experience whale-watching or a volcanic eruption in virtual reality.

As for the performing arts, the city’s chief venue is the enormous Nico Malan Theatre complex down on the Foreshore, housing an opera house and several theatres. Mannenberg’s Jazz Café, on the corner of downtown Adderley and Church streets, is one of the best places in the city to catch indigenous Cape Jazz talent, much of which is exceptional. Night-crawlers looking for late, loud action will find a thriving club scene centered around Loop Street and Long Street in the city center.
