Riding

Guernsey Equestrian and Saddlery Centre at Les Grandes Capelles, St Sampson is a British Horse Society-approved school. They have up to 40 horses; also ponies for children. Tuition is available.

Golf

Only golf course is the 18-hole-course on L’Ancresse Common, used by the Royal Guernsey Golf Club, Vale.

Swimming

Beau Sejour Leisure Centre has a 25-metre pool. Four charming saltwater pools near the Aquarium, St Peter Port are best. They catch the sun’s rays nicely and have good views of Castle Cornet. Ladies’, Gentlemen’s, Children’s and a Mixed pool.

Windsurfing

Take a 1 or 2-hour lesson on Cobo Bay and learn the basics of this new and exhilarating sport.

Sailing

Both the Guernsey Yacht Club, Castle Emplacement, St Peter Port, and the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, offer hospitality to visiting yachtsmen.

Walking

Between Havelet Bay, St Peter Port, and Pleinmont Point, Torteval, are 19 miles of paths which offer breathtaking scenery of cliffs, wooded slopes and tiny coves. Jerbourg Point, on the south-east tip, has a magnificent panoramic view. Walks can be planned in sections as there are car parks and bus routes nearby.

Fetes

Regional fetes, including agricultural shows, stalls and games. Various days in each month are normally dedicated to different regions of Guernsey. Always check local Press for specific locations.

Battle of Flowers

Floats made entirely of flowers compete usually on third Thurs in Aug. Occasionally on the fourth Thurs, so it is best to check first with the Tourist Office.

Old bangers knock each other about occasionally on Sun (when tide is out) on beach at  Chouet, near Grand Havre on north-west coast.

Hill Climbs: on Bank Hols motor cycles and go-karts race up steep, twisting Le Valles des Teres hill oear
