Orkney Chair

19th century photographs and paintings of croft interiors often show these unique chairs with wooden frames and tall backs made from woven straw. When you tour Orkney, make sure you visit some of the lovely old ones in Tankerness House Museum. They are still being made in traditional way by Robert Towers at Rosegarth, St Ola, Kirkwall. You can watch him at work there. The chairs are not cheap but design has solid, timeless quality that would fit in anywhere.
