Important Things To Know About Inverness Vacations

Inverness, widely called the capital city of the Highlands of Scotland, was ceremoniously granted city status in 2001 and at this time is the only city to be found in the Highlands of Scotland. Unusually Inverness has no legal boundaries which can cause problems with population  estimation. The estimations are less likely to be accurate because the population in increasing dramatically, the city has the highest growth rate of any city in Great Britain. One of the things we know for certain is that the population of the city is very happy, in 2008 the Telegraph.co.uk ranked the city of Inverness fifth out of 189 cities in Britain for its quality of life. So I think we can safely state that Inverness is a pretty alright place in which to spend time and this is most likely one of the reasons which make Inverness incredibly popular with tourists. Importantly there is a large number of bed & breakfasts in Inverness with most of it being able to be booked online.

Inverness is also called the gateway to the Highlands for the clear fact that it is the best place to make the most of the Highland public transport system and a considerable number of visitor attractions are within easy reach. Possibly the best way to see them is by using an organized coach tour or day trip. A small number of companies visiting places such as, Loch Ness, Urquart Castle or Culloden or for the adventurous visitor it is possible to visit Orkney or John O’Groats on a day trip. It is also possible to find a small number of city tours, such as those run by City Sightseeing or Tony Harmsworth.

A small percentage of tourists choose to stay in 2 different locations in the Highlands of Scotland as an example Fort William & Inverness. Fort William is incredibly popular with sports men and women especially ramblers, rock climbers and hill walkers who take their chances reaching the summit of Ben Nevis which towers above the town’s center. In a similar fashion to Inverness bed & breakfast accommodation in Fort William and rather like other Scotland bed and breakfast it is commonly not too expensive, excellent value for money and extremely comfortable, clean and tidy with world class hospitality.

One of the most important things to remember is that the airport for Inverness is, near enough, seven miles east of the city at Dalcross. It is easy to hail a cab to the small but busy airport which is quite cheap. If you require maps of Inverness then you will find them free at the tourist office, which is on Castle Wynd. While you are staying in the city you should make a note to visit the Mercat Cross and ‘stone of tubs’, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an interactive experience which is great fun.
