Yunnan
Yunnan (“Cloudy South” or “Dian”) is a mountain and plateau province on China’s southwestern frontier. To the south and southwest, it adjoins Lao, Myanmar and Vietnam. Yunnan is largely (94%) covered with mountains that descend roughly northwestward to southeast. Geographic complexity contributes to the unique and varied continental climates in Yunnan. The population in Yunnan is complex and diverse. Ethnically, the mix is predominantly Han Chinese, but ethnic minorities are prominent in Yunnan.
