Xi An known as Chang An in ancient times. Xi An served as a capital city for 11 dynasties on and off for a total period of 1100 years, having served longer than any other ancient capital in China. During the Han and Tang dynasties, Xian was the political, economic and cultural center of China and an international metropolis where Chinese and Western culture met.
